Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a comforting ground-beef casserole made with seasoned hamburger patties, onions, creamy sauce, and often potatoes or vegetables. It is inexpensive, filling, and easy to prepare for a family dinner.
Ingredients

1½ lb (680 g) ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 egg

½ cup breadcrumbs

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 can cream of mushroom soup

½ cup milk
-
1 cup sliced mushrooms, optional

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, optional
Method

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Mix ground beef, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Shape the mixture into small hamburger steaks.

Brown the patties in a skillet for about 2–3 minutes per side.

Place them in a greased baking dish.

Mix the mushroom soup and milk, then pour the mixture over the steaks.

Add mushrooms and cheese if desired.

Cover with foil and bake for 30–40 minutes, until the beef is completely cooked.

Remove the foil during the last 5–10 minutes to allow the top to brown slightly.

Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Serving
Serve with mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, or buttered noodles. The creamy gravy from the bake is especially good over mashed potatoes.
