No-Oven Bread Recipe in 10 Minutes
Detail
You can make quick stovetop flatbread without an oven. It won’t have exactly the same texture as conventional yeast bread, but it’s soft, warm, and ready in about 10 minutes.
Ingredients
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
½ teaspoon baking powder
-
¼ teaspoon salt
-
½ cup plain yogurt
-
1 tablespoon oil
-
1–2 tablespoons water, if needed
-
Butter for brushing, optional
Method
-
Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
-
Add yogurt and oil and mix until a soft dough forms.
-
If the dough feels dry, add water 1 tablespoon at a time.
-
Knead gently for about 1 minute.
-
Divide into 3–4 pieces and roll each into a thin round.
-
Heat a heavy skillet or tawa over medium-high heat.
-
Cook each flatbread for about 1–2 minutes per side, until bubbles appear and light golden spots develop.
-
Brush with a little butter while hot, if desired.
For Softer Bread
Keep the cooked breads covered with a clean kitchen towel while you finish the batch. This traps steam and keeps them soft.
Easy Additions
Add garlic and herbs to the dough for garlic bread, or sprinkle cheese on top while cooking.
Tip: Don’t use excessive flour when rolling—the extra flour can make the bread dry.
