Baked Potato
Detail
A classic baked potato is crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and requires just a few simple ingredients.
Ingredients
-
4 medium russet potatoes
-
1–2 tablespoons olive oil
-
½ teaspoon salt
-
¼ teaspoon black pepper
-
Butter, for serving
-
Shredded cheese, sour cream, or green onions, optional
Method
-
Heat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
-
Scrub the potatoes well and dry them completely.
-
Pierce each potato several times with a fork.
-
Rub the skins lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
-
Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking tray.
-
Bake for 45–60 minutes, depending on size.
-
They’re ready when a fork easily slides into the center.
-
Cut a cross into the top, gently squeeze the sides to open, and add butter, salt, and pepper.
For Extra-Crispy Skin
Don’t wrap the potatoes in foil. Keeping them uncovered allows the skin to become crisp while the inside stays fluffy.
Topping Ideas
-
Cheddar cheese + sour cream
-
Butter + chives
-
Chili + cheese
-
Broccoli + cheddar
-
Cooked bacon + sour cream
Tip: For the fluffiest center, choose large russet potatoes and serve them immediately after baking.
