🥓 Sausage Gravy with Biscuits
Ingredients
For the Gravy
-
1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage
-
¼ cup all-purpose flour
-
3 cups whole milk
-
½ tsp black pepper
-
¼ tsp salt
-
¼ tsp garlic powder, optional
For the Biscuits
-
8–10 homemade or refrigerated biscuits
Instructions
-
Cook the sausage: Brown the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces. Don’t drain all the fat—it helps make the gravy flavorful.
-
Add flour: Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage and stir well. Cook for about 1–2 minutes.
-
Add milk: Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
-
Thicken: Simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring often, until the gravy becomes thick and creamy.
-
Season: Add black pepper, salt, and garlic powder if using. Taste and adjust.
-
Prepare biscuits: Bake the biscuits according to their package or recipe instructions until golden brown.
-
Serve: Split the warm biscuits and generously spoon the sausage gravy over the top.
Tip: For classic country-style gravy, use plenty of freshly ground black pepper and serve it immediately while the gravy is hot and creamy.
