5 Foods Rich in Estrogen
Foods do not contain human estrogen itself, but some plant foods contain phytoestrogens, natural compounds that can interact with estrogen receptors in the body.
1. Soybeans and Soy Foods
Soybeans are one of the richest dietary sources of isoflavones, a type of phytoestrogen. Tofu, tempeh, edamame, and unsweetened soy milk are common sources.
2. Flaxseeds
Flaxseeds contain lignans, another type of phytoestrogen. Ground flaxseed can easily be added to oatmeal, yogurt, smoothies, or baked foods.
3. Sesame Seeds
Sesame seeds contain plant lignans and can be added to salads, breads, sauces, or cooked dishes.
4. Chickpeas and Other Legumes
Chickpeas, lentils, and beans provide various phytoestrogens along with protein and fiber, making them nutritious choices for a balanced diet.
5. Dried Fruits
Dried apricots, raisins, and prunes contain smaller amounts of phytoestrogen compounds. Since dried fruit is concentrated, moderate portions are a good choice.
Important: These foods do not increase estrogen in the same way as hormone medication. Their effects are generally much milder and can vary from person to person.
