WARNING! THESE TABLETS CAN CAUSE BLOOD CLOTS, BLOOD THROMBOTS, AND HEART ATTACKS

Warning: Some Medicines Can Increase the Risk of Blood Clots and Heart Problems

Certain medicines can carry cardiovascular risks, but the risk depends heavily on the specific medicine, dose, duration of use, and the person’s health history. It is therefore not accurate to say that a particular group of “tablets” universally causes blood clots or heart attacks.

1. Some NSAID Painkillers

Non-aspirin NSAIDs can increase the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke, with risk potentially increasing with higher doses and longer use.

2. Some Hormonal Medicines

Certain estrogen-containing hormone treatments and combined hormonal contraceptives can increase the risk of blood clots, and some formulations can also increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.

3. Some JAK-Inhibitor Medicines

The FDA requires prominent warnings for certain JAK inhibitors because studies found increased risks of serious heart-related events and blood clots in particular patient populations.

Important: Don’t Stop Prescribed Medicine Suddenly

A medication that carries a potential clotting or cardiovascular risk may still be appropriate because its benefits can outweigh its risks for a particular person. Do not stop or change a prescribed medicine without speaking with a doctor or pharmacist.

If someone develops sudden chest pain, difficulty breathing, fainting, or other symptoms suggestive of a heart attack or serious blood clot, emergency medical care is needed.
