Prep time: 5 minutes
Freeze time: 10–15 minutes, optional
Total time: 5–20 minutes
Servings: 2

This creamy Chocolate Frosty is thick, cold, and intensely chocolatey, with a milkshake-like texture. Greek yogurt and milk add protein while frozen banana gives it natural sweetness and a smooth, frosty consistency.

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups ice cubes
  • Âľ cup (170 g) plain or vanilla Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup (120 ml) unsweetened milk
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 scoop (25–30 g) chocolate or vanilla protein powder
  • 1–2 tbsp maple syrup or honey, to taste
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ frozen banana, sliced
  • 1 tbsp creamy peanut butter, optional

Instructions

1. Add the ingredients

Place the milk, Greek yogurt, cocoa powder, protein powder, frozen banana, vanilla, sweetener, and salt into a high-speed blender.

Add the ice last.

2. Blend

Blend on high until thick and completely smooth.

If the mixture is too thick for your blender, add 1 tablespoon of milk at a time.

Avoid adding too much liquid—the secret to a Frosty-like texture is keeping the mixture very thick.

3. Taste and adjust

Taste the Frosty.

For a richer chocolate flavor, add another teaspoon of cocoa powder.

For more sweetness, add another teaspoon of maple syrup or honey.

For a richer texture, blend in the peanut butter.

4. Serve immediately

Pour into two chilled glasses.

Serve with a spoon or thick reusable straw.

For an extra chocolatey finish, dust the top with cocoa powder or add a few dark chocolate shavings.

Extra-Thick Frosty

For an exceptionally thick texture, use:

  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • ÂĽ cup milk

Blend slowly, using the blender tamper if necessary.

Don’t add extra milk unless absolutely needed.

Double Chocolate Version

Add:

  • 1 tbsp chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp chocolate protein powder
  • 1 tsp extra cocoa powder

Blend until smooth.

Top with a few mini chocolate chips.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Frosty

Add 1–2 tablespoons peanut butter to the blender.

For a peanut-butter-cup flavor, add ½ teaspoon vanilla and a small pinch of salt.

Top with crushed peanuts and a little melted dark chocolate.

Lower-Carb Version

Replace the banana with:

  • ½ cup frozen cauliflower rice
  • Extra ice
  • A little additional sweetener

Use unsweetened almond milk and a low-carb protein powder.

The cauliflower adds body without contributing much flavor.

Dairy-Free Version

Use:

  • Unsweetened almond, soy, or coconut milk
  • Dairy-free Greek-style yogurt
  • Plant-based chocolate protein powder

The texture remains thick and creamy.

Tips for the Best Frosty

Use frozen ingredients

Frozen banana and ice create the characteristic thick, icy texture.

Don’t add too much liquid

Start with less milk and increase only if your blender needs help.

Use good cocoa powder

A quality unsweetened cocoa powder gives the Frosty a much deeper chocolate flavor.

Add a pinch of salt

It may seem insignificant, but a tiny amount of salt enhances the chocolate and balances the sweetness.

Approximate Nutrition

Using nonfat Greek yogurt, unsweetened almond milk, and one scoop of protein powder, one serving is approximately:

  • Calories: 200–250
  • Protein: 25–30 g
  • Carbohydrates: 20–25 g
  • Fat: 3–6 g

Exact values depend on the protein powder, yogurt, milk, and sweetener used.

Best Version

For the richest result, blend frozen banana, thick Greek yogurt, chocolate protein powder, cocoa, just enough milk, and plenty of ice until completely smooth. Add a spoonful of peanut butter and a pinch of salt for an extra-indulgent chocolate-peanut-butter Frosty.
