🥜 Easy Fritos Peanut Butter Caramel

This sweet-and-salty treat combines crunchy Fritos corn chips, creamy peanut butter, buttery caramel, and chocolate. It’s incredibly easy to make and is perfect for parties, holidays, or a quick homemade dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 bag (9–10 oz / 255–285 g) Fritos corn chips, lightly crushed

  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter

  • 1 cup (200 g) packed brown sugar

  • ½ cup (120 ml) light corn syrup

  • ½ cup (130 g) creamy peanut butter

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 1½ cups (255 g) semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips

  • ½ cup (85 g) peanut butter chips, optional

  • Flaky sea salt, optional

Instructions

1. Prepare the pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Line a 9 × 13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Lightly spray it with nonstick cooking spray.

Spread the Fritos evenly across the bottom of the pan.

You want plenty of chips in every bite, but don’t crush them into tiny crumbs. Leave some larger pieces for texture.

2. Make the caramel

Place the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup in a medium saucepan.

Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly.

Once the mixture comes to a gentle boil, continue cooking for approximately 3–4 minutes, stirring continuously.

Remove the saucepan from the heat.

Immediately stir in the peanut butter, vanilla, and salt.

Keep stirring until the peanut butter is completely melted and the caramel is smooth.

3. Pour over the Fritos

Slowly pour the hot peanut butter caramel over the Fritos.

Use a spatula to gently spread it around so the chips are evenly coated.

Don’t stir too aggressively—you want to keep some of the Fritos pieces intact.

4. Bake

Place the pan in the oven and bake for 8–10 minutes.

The caramel should be bubbling around the edges.

Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes.

5. Add the chocolate

Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the warm caramel-covered Fritos.

Let them sit for 2–3 minutes so the chocolate can soften.

Spread the melted chocolate into an even layer using a spatula.

If you’re using peanut butter chips, sprinkle them over the chocolate while it’s still soft.

6. Add a little salt

For that irresistible sweet-and-salty flavor, sprinkle a small amount of flaky sea salt over the chocolate.

Don’t use too much—the Fritos are already salty.

7. Chill

Place the pan in the refrigerator for about 1 hour, or until the chocolate and caramel have firmed up.

Once set, lift the candy out using the parchment paper.

Break it into irregular pieces or cut it into bars.

⭐ Tips for the Best Fritos Caramel

  • Don’t overcook the caramel. A few minutes of boiling is enough; cooking it too long can make the finished candy hard.

  • Use creamy peanut butter for the smoothest caramel.

  • Don’t crush the Fritos too finely—you want that crunchy texture.

  • Milk chocolate makes the candy sweeter, while semi-sweet chocolate gives you a better balance with the caramel.

  • A little flaky salt on top makes the peanut butter and caramel flavors pop.

🥜 Easy Variations

Peanut Butter Chocolate:
Add extra peanut butter chips over the chocolate layer.

Nutty Crunch:
Sprinkle ½ cup chopped peanuts over the chocolate.

Pretzel Version:
Replace half the Fritos with crushed pretzels.

Extra Chocolate:
Drizzle melted white chocolate over the finished bars.

Spicy-Sweet:
Add a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper to the caramel for a sweet-and-spicy version.

Storage

Keep the finished pieces in an airtight container.

  • Room temperature: 3–4 days

  • Refrigerator: up to 1 week

  • Freezer: up to 1 month

Let refrigerated pieces sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.

The result: crunchy, salty Fritos coated in buttery peanut-butter caramel and topped with creamy chocolate—a surprisingly addictive sweet-and-salty snack.
