Small White Spots on Your Arms or Legs: What They Could Mean
Small white spots on the arms or legs are often harmless, but there are several possible causes.
1. Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis
Tiny, flat white spots that commonly appear on the arms and legs, especially with age and sun exposure. They are usually harmless.
2. Vitiligo
Vitiligo causes areas of skin to lose pigment. The patches may gradually become larger and more noticeable.
3. Fungal Infection
A fungal condition such as tinea versicolor can cause lighter patches, sometimes with mild scaling or itching.
4. Dry Skin
Very dry skin can sometimes make areas appear lighter or patchy, particularly during dry weather.
When to See a Doctor
See a dermatologist if the spots are spreading, changing, itchy, scaly, painful, or appearing in many new areas. A doctor can examine the skin and determine the exact cause.
Important
Avoid assuming that every white spot is a vitamin deficiency or fungal infection. The appearance and pattern of the spots matter, and proper diagnosis is the best way to choose treatment.
