🛒 Ingredients
- 4 cups (1 liter) water
- 2–3 inches (5–7 cm) fresh ginger root
- 1–2 teaspoons lemon juice, optional
- 1–2 teaspoons honey, optional
🫚 Step 1: Prepare the Ginger
Wash the ginger thoroughly.
You can peel it with the edge of a teaspoon, although peeling isn’t essential if it’s well washed.
Slice the ginger into thin pieces.
💡 Tip
The thinner you slice the ginger, the more flavor it will release into the water.
💧 Step 2: Combine the Ginger and Water
Add 4 cups of water and the sliced ginger to a saucepan.
Bring the water to a gentle boil.
🔥 Step 3: Simmer
Reduce the heat to low.
Cover and simmer for approximately 10–15 minutes.
For a stronger ginger flavor, simmer for up to 20 minutes.
🍋 Step 4: Strain
Remove the saucepan from the heat.
Strain the ginger water through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher or heatproof container.
Discard the ginger pieces or save them for another use.
🍯 Step 5: Flavor It
If desired, stir in:
- Fresh lemon juice
- Honey
If adding honey, let the water cool slightly first.
Taste and adjust the sweetness to your preference.
🧊 Step 6: Serve
Hot
Pour into a mug and enjoy warm.
Cold
Allow it to cool, then refrigerate.
Serve over ice with lemon slices and a few fresh ginger pieces.
🍋 Lemon Ginger Water
For a brighter version, add:
- Juice of ½ lemon
- A few lemon slices
The citrus balances the spicy ginger beautifully.
🌿 Mint Ginger Water
Add a handful of fresh mint leaves after straining.
Let them infuse for 5–10 minutes, then chill.
🥒 Cucumber Ginger Water
For a refreshing summer drink, add:
- ½ cucumber, thinly sliced
- Fresh mint
- Lemon slices
Refrigerate for several hours before serving.
🧊 Quick Cold Version
If you don’t want to boil anything, place:
- 1–2 inches thinly sliced ginger
- 1 liter cold water
in a pitcher.
Refrigerate for 2–4 hours, or overnight for stronger flavor.
Strain before drinking.
👩🍳 Tips
- More ginger = stronger flavor.
- Fresh ginger provides a much better flavor than powdered ginger for infused water.
- Start with a smaller amount of ginger if you’re sensitive to spicy flavors.
- Keep prepared ginger water refrigerated and use within 2–3 days for the best flavor.
⭐ Simple Formula
