It’s a great no-bake dessert for family dinners, parties, holidays, or whenever you’re craving something chocolate without spending hours in the kitchen.

Ingredients

For the cookie base

  • 2 cups (200 g) chocolate cookie crumbs
  • 5 tablespoons (70 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, optional
  • Pinch of salt

For the chocolate cream layer

  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (25 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups (360 ml) heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 1 cup (170 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted and slightly cooled

For the topping

  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips
  • Optional: cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base.
Add the chocolate cookie crumbs to a bowl. Stir in the melted butter, sugar if using, and salt until the crumbs are evenly moistened.
  2. Press into the dish.
Transfer the mixture to an 8×8-inch baking dish or similar serving dish. Press it firmly into an even layer using the bottom of a glass or measuring cup.
  3. Chill the crust.
Refrigerate the base for 20–30 minutes while you prepare the chocolate filling.
  4. Melt the chocolate.
Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20–30 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until completely smooth.

Set aside to cool slightly. The chocolate should be warm and fluid but not hot.

  5. Prepare the cream cheese mixture.
Beat the softened cream cheese and granulated sugar until smooth and creamy.
  6. Add cocoa and vanilla.
Beat in the cocoa powder and vanilla extract until evenly combined.
  7. Whip the cream.
In a separate bowl, beat the cold heavy cream until it forms soft peaks.
  8. Add the chocolate.
Slowly mix the melted chocolate into the cream cheese mixture until smooth.
  9. Fold in whipped cream.
Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture in two or three additions. Use a spatula and fold rather than aggressively stirring so you keep the filling light and fluffy.
  10. Add the chocolate cream layer.
Spread the chocolate mixture evenly over the chilled cookie crust.
  11. Make the topping.
Beat the cold heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
  12. Decorate.
Spread or pipe the whipped cream over the chocolate layer. Finish with chocolate shavings, mini chocolate chips, or a light dusting of cocoa powder.
  13. Chill.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the dessert to firm up and makes slicing much easier.
  14. Serve.
Cut into squares and serve chilled.

Tips for the Best Chocolate Cream Dessert

  • Use full-fat cream cheese for the richest and creamiest texture.
  • Make sure the melted chocolate has cooled slightly before mixing it with the cream cheese.
  • Use cold heavy cream when whipping—it will reach stiff peaks much more easily.
  • Don’t overmix the whipped cream into the chocolate filling.
  • For clean slices, chill the dessert overnight and use a sharp knife.
  • For an even more intense chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate instead of semi-sweet chocolate.

Easy Variations

Chocolate Peanut Butter:
Add ½ cup creamy peanut butter to the chocolate cream layer and sprinkle chopped peanuts over the top.

Mint Chocolate:
Add ½ teaspoon peppermint extract to the chocolate filling and decorate with chocolate curls.

Oreo-Style:
Use chocolate sandwich cookies for the crust and fold crushed cookies into the chocolate cream layer.

Mocha:
Dissolve 1–2 teaspoons instant espresso powder into the melted chocolate before adding it to the filling.

Raspberry Chocolate:
Spread a thin layer of raspberry jam over the cookie crust before adding the chocolate cream.

Storage

Keep the dessert covered and refrigerated for up to 4 days.

It can also be frozen for up to 1 month. Thaw it overnight in the refrigerator before serving.

Makes

Approximately 9–12 servings, depending on how large you cut the squares.

For an extra-decadent finish, serve each piece with a few fresh berries, extra whipped cream, and a drizzle of warm chocolate sauce.
