Before going to sleep, there is one kitchen appliance that you must unplug at all costs to avoid a fire!

Before Going to Sleep, Unplug This Kitchen Appliance to Reduce Fire Risk

There is no single kitchen appliance that must always be unplugged in every home, but some appliances deserve extra caution when they are left operating unattended. Small countertop cooking appliances, especially those that generate high heat, should not be left running while everyone is asleep.

1. Toasters

A toaster can accumulate crumbs and food debris over time. If a malfunction occurs while it is unattended, there is a potential fire risk. Unplugging it after use is a simple precaution.

2. Toaster Ovens

Toaster ovens produce significant heat and should not be left operating overnight. Make sure they are switched off and unplugged when finished, particularly if the manufacturer recommends disconnecting them after use.

3. Air Fryers

Air fryers also generate substantial heat. They should never be left cooking while you are asleep or away from home. Allow the appliance to cool before storing it or placing anything nearby.

4. Coffee Makers

Many modern coffee makers are designed to remain plugged in and may have automatic shutoff features. Even so, checking that the machine has finished its cycle and following the manufacturer’s instructions is a sensible habit.

Other Important Safety Checks

Before going to bed, make sure cooking appliances are switched off, keep towels and paper products away from hot surfaces, and don’t overload electrical outlets or extension cords.

Inspect cords and plugs for fraying, melting, or other damage. A damaged appliance should be taken out of use until it has been properly repaired or replaced.

Bottom line: There isn’t one universal appliance that must be unplugged “at all costs,” but high-heat countertop appliances should never be left operating unattended overnight. Following the manufacturer’s safety instructions and switching off appliances after use can reduce unnecessary fire hazards.
