Cheesy Beef Puff Pastry
A crispy, golden puff pastry filled with savory seasoned beef and gooey melted cheese—great for a snack, appetizer, or quick dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 250–300 g ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1–2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp oil
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp chili flakes, optional
- 1 tbsp ketchup or tomato paste
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar
- 1 egg, beaten, for brushing
- Sesame seeds or nigella seeds, optional
Instructions
- Cook the beef: Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onion until soft. Add garlic and ground beef. Cook until the beef is browned and most of the liquid has evaporated.
- Season: Add salt, pepper, paprika, chili flakes, and ketchup/tomato paste. Cook for another 2–3 minutes. Let the filling cool completely.
- Prepare the pastry: Heat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into rectangles or squares.
- Fill: Place a spoonful of beef filling in the center of each piece and sprinkle generously with cheese. Fold over and press the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
- Brush: Place on a lined baking tray. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame or nigella seeds if desired.
- Bake: Bake for 18–25 minutes, until puffed and beautifully golden brown.
Quick tip
Don’t overfill the pastry, and make sure the beef filling is cool before assembling—hot filling can make the puff pastry soggy and difficult to seal.
