This Big Mac Cheeseburger Protein Bowl has all the classic burger flavors—seasoned beef, melty cheese, crisp lettuce, pickles, onions, and creamy special sauce—but served in a filling bowl. It’s a great high-protein lunch or dinner and comes together much faster than making individual burgers.

Servings: 4
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Total time: About 30 minutes

Ingredients

For the beef

  • 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

For the bowl

  • 6 cups chopped romaine or iceberg lettuce
  • 1 cup cooked rice (optional)
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup diced dill pickles
  • ½ cup finely diced onion
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
  • ¼ cup diced or crushed toasted burger bun, optional

Big Mac-style sauce

  • ½ cup light mayonnaise
  • 3 tbsp plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped dill pickles or relish
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp pickle juice
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Make the special sauce

Add the mayonnaise, Greek yogurt, chopped pickles, mustard, ketchup, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and pickle juice to a small bowl.

Whisk until smooth.

Taste and adjust the seasoning.

For a tangier sauce, add another splash of pickle juice.

Cover and refrigerate while you prepare the beef.

2. Cook the beef

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add the ground beef.

Cook for approximately 6–8 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon or spatula as it cooks.

Once browned and cooked through, drain excess fat if necessary.

3. Season the beef

Add the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce.

Stir thoroughly.

Cook for another 1–2 minutes so the seasonings coat the beef and the Worcestershire sauce cooks into the meat.

Remove from the heat.

4. Prepare the vegetables

While the beef cooks, chop the lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles.

For the most authentic Big Mac-style texture, dice the onion and pickles fairly small.

5. Build the bowls

Divide the chopped lettuce between four bowls.

If you’re using rice, add about ¼ cup cooked rice to each bowl.

Top each bowl with seasoned beef.

Add:

  • Shredded cheddar
  • Pickles
  • Diced onion
  • Tomato

6. Add the sauce

Drizzle the Big Mac-style sauce generously over each bowl.

Finish with sesame seeds.

For extra crunch, sprinkle a small amount of toasted, diced burger bun over the top.

🍔 Optional “Big Mac” Crunch

Cut half a hamburger bun into small cubes.

Toss with a tiny amount of olive oil and a pinch of garlic powder.

Toast in a skillet or air fryer until golden and crisp.

Scatter the pieces over the bowls just before serving.

They taste like little homemade burger croutons.

⭐ Tips for a Great Protein Bowl

Use lean beef

90–93% lean ground beef works particularly well. It keeps the bowl satisfying without making it excessively greasy.

Don’t skip the pickles

The acidity from the pickles balances the rich beef, cheese, and sauce.

Make the sauce ahead

Letting the sauce sit in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes allows the flavors to blend.

Keep the lettuce crisp

If you’re meal-prepping, store the lettuce and sauce separately from the hot beef.

🥑 Easy Variations

Higher-Protein Version

Use extra-lean beef and increase the Greek yogurt in the sauce. You can also add a scoop of cottage cheese on the side.

Lower-Carb Version

Skip the rice and bun croutons and use extra lettuce, pickles, and vegetables.

Chicken Big Mac Bowl

Replace the beef with seasoned ground chicken or chopped grilled chicken.

Spicy Big Mac Bowl

Add sliced jalapeños and ½ tsp hot sauce to the special sauce.

Bacon Cheeseburger Bowl

Add a small amount of crispy cooked bacon and swap the cheddar for smoked cheddar.

🥡 Meal Prep

This recipe works particularly well for meal prep.

Divide the cooked beef, lettuce, vegetables, and cheese among four containers, but keep the sauce separate.

Refrigerate for up to 3–4 days.

When ready to eat, warm the beef separately if desired, then assemble the bowl and add the sauce.

🍔 The perfect bite

For the full Big Mac experience, make sure every forkful has a little seasoned beef + cheese + pickle + onion + lettuce + special sauce. That’s where all the classic burger flavors come together.
