The Secret to the Crunchiest, Crispiest Bacon
The trick is simple: start bacon in a cold oven and cook it slowly. This helps the fat render gradually while the bacon becomes evenly crisp.
Ingredients
- 1 package bacon
Instructions
- Start cold: Place the bacon strips in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. You don’t need to preheat the oven.
- Bake: Put the pan into a cold oven and set it to 400°F (200°C).
- Cook until crisp: Bake for about 18–25 minutes, depending on the thickness of the bacon and how crispy you like it.
- Drain: Carefully transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess grease.
- Serve: Let it rest for a minute or two. It will become slightly crispier as it cools.
Tip: Don’t overlap the slices. For especially even cooking, use a wire rack set over the baking sheet so the bacon isn’t sitting directly in the rendered fat.
