A lighter, high-protein take on the classic Big Mac, this bowl combines juicy seasoned ground beef, crisp lettuce, cheddar cheese, pickles, onions, and a creamy tangy burger sauce. It’s filling, flavorful, and perfect for meal prep.

Ingredients

Seasoned Beef

  • 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce, optional

Bowl Ingredients

  • 6 cups chopped iceberg or romaine lettuce
  • 1 cup cooked white or brown rice, optional
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup finely diced dill pickles
  • ½ cup finely diced yellow onion
  • 1 large tomato, diced
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds, optional

Big Mac-Style Protein Sauce

  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1½ tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped dill pickles
  • 1 tsp pickle juice
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp paprika
  • Pinch of black pepper

Instructions

1. Make the sauce

Add the Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, chopped pickles, pickle juice, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika to a small bowl.

Whisk until smooth.

Taste and adjust the mustard, pickle juice, or seasoning as desired.

Cover and refrigerate while preparing the beef.

2. Cook the beef

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add the olive oil and ground beef.

Cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking the meat apart as it browns.

Continue cooking until the beef is completely cooked through.

Drain excess grease if necessary.

3. Season the beef

Reduce the heat to medium.

Add the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.

Stir in the mustard, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce.

Cook for another 1–2 minutes, stirring until everything is well combined.

Remove from the heat.

Assemble the Bowls

4. Prepare the base

Divide the chopped lettuce between four bowls.

For a more substantial meal, add a small portion of cooked rice underneath the lettuce.

5. Add the beef

Divide the hot seasoned beef evenly between the bowls.

6. Add the toppings

Add the shredded cheddar, diced pickles, onion, and tomato.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds for an extra burger-bun flavor.

7. Add the sauce

Drizzle each bowl generously with the Big Mac-style sauce.

Serve immediately.

Extra-Cheesy Version

Turn off the heat after cooking the beef and immediately stir in ½ cup shredded cheddar.

Cover the skillet for about 1 minute so the cheese melts into the beef.

Then build the bowls as usual.

Low-Carb Version

For a lower-carb bowl, skip the rice and use extra:

  • Iceberg lettuce
  • Pickles
  • Cucumber
  • Tomato
  • Onion

You can also replace some of the cheddar with additional lean beef for a higher-protein, lower-fat version.

High-Protein Version

To increase the protein further:

  • Use very lean ground beef.
  • Choose high-protein Greek yogurt for the sauce.
  • Add an extra ¼–½ lb of beef.
  • Use a high-protein rice or grain if desired.
  • Add a hard-boiled egg for an unconventional but filling addition.

Crispy Potato Big Mac Bowl

For a burger-and-fries-inspired version, add crispy diced potatoes.

Toss diced potatoes with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Air fry at 400°F (200°C) until crisp, then add them to the bowl just before serving.

The combination of crispy potatoes, beef, cheese, pickles, and special sauce is especially satisfying.

Meal Prep

For meal prep, keep the components separate:

  • Store cooked beef in one container.
  • Keep lettuce and fresh vegetables refrigerated separately.
  • Store the sauce in small individual containers.
  • Keep rice or potatoes separate if using.

Refrigerate for 3–4 days.

Warm the beef and rice before adding the cold lettuce and toppings.

Tips for the Best Bowl

Dice the toppings finely

Small pieces of onion and pickle distribute the classic burger flavor throughout the bowl.

Keep the lettuce crisp

Don’t mix the hot beef with the lettuce until you’re ready to eat.

Make the sauce ahead

Allowing the sauce to sit for 30 minutes gives the flavors time to develop.

Don’t overcook lean beef

Lean ground beef can dry out quickly, so remove it from the heat as soon as it’s cooked through.

Approximate Nutrition

Per serving, without rice, the bowl provides roughly:

  • Protein: 35–40 g
  • Calories: 450–550
  • Carbohydrates: 12–18 g
  • Fat: 25–32 g

The exact numbers depend on the beef, cheese, yogurt, mayonnaise, and portion sizes used.

Best Serving Combination

For the full Big Mac experience, layer crisp iceberg lettuce, hot seasoned beef, melted cheddar, finely diced pickles and onions, tomato, and creamy special sauce, then finish with sesame seeds. Add crispy potatoes on the side for a healthier burger-and-fries-style meal.
