If Your Veins Are Visible in Your Hands, Is It a Sign of Cancer?
Usually, no. Visible veins on the hands are very common and, by themselves, are not a reliable sign of cancer.
Hand veins can become more noticeable for many harmless reasons.
Common Reasons Your Hand Veins May Be More Visible
1. Low body fat
People with less fat under the skin naturally have make veins look larger or more prominent. They may become less noticeable after you cool more prominent veins, especially on the hands and forearms.
2. Exercise
Physical activity temporarily increases blood flow and can make veins look larger or more prominent. They may become less noticeable after you cool down.
3. Hot weather
Heat causes blood vessels near the skin to widen, which can make superficial veins easier to see.
4. Aging
As people get older, the skin becomes thinner and loses some of its elasticity and underlying fat. This can make veins appear more prominent.
5. Dehydration
Being dehydrated can sometimes make veins appear more noticeable, although visible hand veins alone aren’t a reliable way to diagnose dehydration.
6. Genetics
Some people simply naturally have more prominent superficial veins.
When Should You Get It Checked?
Visible veins deserve medical attention when they are accompanied by new or unusual symptoms, such as:
