These Are the Possible Consequences of Bathing With Very Hot Water
Bathing is an important part of personal hygiene, but very hot water can sometimes cause problems, particularly when you stay in it for a long time.
1. Dry, Irritated Skin
Hot water can remove some of the skin’s natural oils, leaving the skin feeling dry, tight, itchy, or irritated.
2. Worsening of Existing Skin Problems
People with naturally dry or sensitive skin may notice more irritation after frequent hot showers or baths.
3. Dizziness or Weakness
Very hot water can cause blood vessels to widen and may temporarily lower blood pressure. Some people may therefore feel light-headed, especially when standing up quickly after a hot bath.
4. Increased Skin Sensitivity
Repeated exposure to very hot water can make already irritated skin feel more uncomfortable.
5. Hair and Scalp Dryness
Hot water can contribute to dryness of the scalp and hair by removing natural oils.
A Safer Approach
Use warm rather than very hot water, keep showers reasonably short, and moisturize afterward if your skin tends to become dry. If you feel dizzy or faint while bathing, get out of the hot water and sit or lie down somewhere safe.
Bottom line: Bathing itself is beneficial for hygiene. The concern is mainly excessively hot water and prolonged exposure, not ordinary bathing.
